John Underwood

John Underwood and Ann Watts are listed as having married in 1810 at Pottern, Wiltshire, England, but it is presently impossible to get earlier than this date with any certainty because their age when they got married is not listed.

John may have been born anywhere but the most likely place would be pottern where there are many Underwood’s living at the time, although there was no ‘John Underwood‘ registered in the Pottern parish church between 1787 and 1800.

If he was born in Pottern, and assuming John was 25 years old on his marriage in 1810, he would have been born about 1785, and there are several ‘John’s recorded in the baptism register of St Mary the Virgin Church, Potterton, Wiltshire between 1771 and 1786:

1786 16-Apr John Underwood born to James and Jane (John would have been about 24 years old at 1810 wedding).  This is the most likely but there is no way to be certain.

1781 18-Nov John Underwood born to Ambrose and Ann (John would have been about 29 years old at 1810 wedding)

1781 18-Feb John Underwood born to John and Ann (John would have been about 29 years old at 1810 wedding)

1771 13-Oct John Underwod born to Richard and Judith (John would have been about 39 years old at 1810 wedding)

1771 29-Sep John Underwood born to Richard and Elizabeth (John would have been aged about 39 at 1810 wedding)
