West Yorkshire Regiment: I am currently researching my next book, a family saga set mainly in the Far East during the 1930s and 1940s.
I already have quite a lot of the information I need, but in order to make the story authentic I welcome any additional help my readers can provide.
In particular, I would welcome information about day to day life within the following periods:
- Day to day life within the Second Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment between 1934 and 1936.
- Day to day life within the First Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment between 1936 and 1939.
- Day to day life within the 12th Infantry Brigade at Secunderabad Barracks, Hyderabad, India (now Pakistan) between 1936 and 1939.
- Day to day life within the 12th (Secunderabad) Infantry Brigade 2nd Echelon Emu Force at Singapore between 1939 and 1941.
I do have a general idea of what these battalion, regiment, and brigades were doing during the above periods, obtained from various official histories, but what I am looking for are details of the more mundane every day life within those organisations rather than the official histories.

To give you an idea of what I’m looking for, the Second Battalion of the West Yorkshire Regiment between 1934 and 1936 was stationed at Aldershot, England. Whilst the official history gives scant information, a local newspaper gives more day to day information in an account of a 1934 court martial of two privates who stole a bicycle and deserted. That sort of day to day, or mundain information, which cannot usually be found in official histories, will help make the family saga more authentic. Unfortunately, that is exactly the type of information which is mainly lacking within the pre-war period of the 1930s.
If you can provide any information about the above periods, or point me in the direction of any information, I would be pleased to hear from you.
